Woodworking Dreams (WD) is a Christian-based ministry devoted to the construction and free distribution of simple but sturdy furniture to families and individuals in the Central Virginia area that cannot afford furniture, especially those who may be transitioning from being unhoused.

Wayne and Susan Sommer are the founders of the ministry and will do most of the construction work themselves out of their home in Virginia.

In 2024 Woodworking Dreams went offline for a while to facilitate their move from Colorado to Virginia. This move will allow them to seek out opportunities to meet the needs of those in the City of Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Greene, Madison, and Orange. The relocation also provides for a larger workshop. They will move from a 200 square foot garage to a 1,000 square foot basement. It will be a dedicated shop space with room to store furniture inventory. It’s exciting to consider the prospects! They will begin building out the shop in January 2025 and by God’s grace they will be back up and running in the Spring.
